How it works
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on every iPhone and iPad since iOS 11, released in 2017. It is based on the HEVC (H.265) video codec and was chosen by Apple because it achieves roughly 50% better compression than JPG at the same visual quality. This means your iPhone can store twice as many photos in the same amount of space.
Beyond compression, HEIC supports features that JPG simply cannot: HDR imagery, depth maps for Portrait mode, transparency, and even multi-frame content like Live Photos and burst sequences — all in a single file. For Apple users, it is a technically superior format.
Quick & easyPrivacy & security
Unlike most online converters, AwesomeToolkit does not upload your photos to any server. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly (libheif), a compiled library that decodes HEIC data locally on your device. Your photos never leave your computer or phone.
This means there is zero risk of data breach, no waiting for uploads/downloads over the network, and the tool works perfectly offline once the page is loaded. Whether you are converting personal photos, confidential documents, or client deliverables — everything stays private.
